Michigan Film Corps is putting together an incredible Board of Directors which will be announced soon, along with a great June fundraiser in the Michigan Tri-City area. We are putting the finishing touches on our non-profit legal paperwork and prepping for meetings in Los Angeles with producers.

The big news that came out of Michigan this past month was the announcement of Hanger42 Studios in Walker. While there has been much talk and speculation about Michigan studios, this is physical proof that it can be done. We are excited to see more film productions come to Michigan.

2010 is shaping up to be an incredible year for MFC, and we can't wait to show you what we have in store!
info@michiganfilmcorps.org (David Patton) Sat, 29 Aug 2009 14:38:19 +0000 http://www.michiganfilmcorps.org/newsroom.php?mode=viewstory&id=8 ClueQuest 2009 A Success!
KALAMAZOO – ClueQuest 2009 was a rousing success! Michigan Film Corps (MFC)—the new Kalamazoo-based non-profit organization—held their first ever fundraising event this past Sunday to large numbers. More than a dozen Portage-Kalamazoo businesses and over eighty local residents participated in what was billed as “Kalamazoo’s Biggest Adventure!”

Teams met at the Overlander Bandshell in Central Park in Portage, where team photos were taken and pizza was served. Things got off to a wild start when teams were told to collect puzzle pieces hidden throughout the park for points.

Activities varied at each location; there was beading at The Bead Shop; “Bagel Plinko” at Big Apple Bagels on S. Westnedge; puzzle solving at Fanfare Sports and Entertainment; frisbee golf at Lee’s Adventure Sports; jingle-singing at Mattress Mart; digging for buried treasure at Medawar Jewelers; pizza-making at Papa Murphy’s Pizza; 3-ball challenge at Playtime Billiards; perform on camera at Second Childhood; doing each other’s hair at Tuscany Salon; being quizzed at Wild Birds and Beyond; and making snacks at Young Chefs Academy.

The after party was held at WMU’s Fetzer Center. Sponsors gave out door-prizes and MFC served dessert. The drama intensified with a tie between second and third place teams. Members from both teams were asked to participate in a tie-breaker. The teams tossed donuts—donated from Sweetwater’s Donut Mill—into each other’s mouths!

The event raised money for Michigan Film Corps and was an incredible success. Michigan Film Corps encourages anyone interested in supporting the awesome Michigan film incentives to attend and let your voice be heard! Dianna Higgs Stampfler, an organizer and member of the Michigan Production Alliance says: "The purpose of the event is to ward off the counter-productive negative publicity being disseminated in the media about the demise of the film bills." The theme of the event is "Film Incentives Benefit Everyone." Higgs Stampfler continues, "40% of nothing is nothing! This is new money that would not have come to Michigan had it not been for these visionary bills." Signs will be provided to anyone who attends the rally. Organizers hope to get one thousand people on the East steps of the Capital on Tuesday morning. "Bring a chair, an umbrella and your support for the incentives!" For more information go to: www.mpami.org or e-mail info@mpami.org

test
info@michiganfilmcorps.org (David Patton) Wed, 08 Jul 2009 19:04:00 +0000 http://www.michiganfilmcorps.org/newsroom.php?mode=viewstory&id=3 Welcome to the Redesign Welcome to our completely redesigned website for Michigan Film Corps. Hundreds attended this well-run festival, now located along the lakeshore at the indie-friendly Harbor Theater.

Michigan Film Corps had a booth setup where we held a drawing for made-in-Michigan DVDs. I met a lot of students who were excited about the program, saying that it was "just what we need" and that they see MFC "bridging the gap" of going from student to professional. I also met up with a lot of professionals anxious to learn more details about the program and how they could help. An overwhelmingly great response!

Tracy K. Lorenz and Bill Iddings were both on hand, no doubt writing coverage and observation surrounding the fest. It was great catching up with Tracy, whom I've now worked with on two features, Offspring and Up From the Bottoms, both which were shot in Muskegon and heavily featured students-as-crew members. And it was awesome to finally meet Bill, who has been supporting and writing about filmmaking in Michigan for many years now. I recommend checking out both their websites for insight and info.

The jam-packed schedule included many shorts and features shot right here in Michigan, including "Best Feature Film" winner, Fairview St.

The festival was awesome and the weather was beautiful. Michigan Film Corps looks forward to working with the Muskegon Film Festival organizers to create the incredible 2nd Annual Rock the Boat concert event coming in September.
